Tax time for authors and writers

A fourth of the year is already gone. Filing season is upon us. I'll assume you either have filed or will shortly. Wonder what it would feel like to have your annual appointment with your accountant be painless?

RECORD KEEPING

Use just one bank account, even if it is your personal one with your spouse, for all of your business expenses. Go to the store and purchase a big envelope and write 2017 Taxes on it. Then, from now on, every time you have a receipt, stuff it in the envelope. Add a highlighter and Voila'!

Use just one credit card for your online purchases and seminars, airfares, meals, etc. You signed on for the life of a writer, so don't ruin it with doing taxes. Write On!
